Aventura
• Community Info • Neighborhood Info • Schools Info
Nestled in the northeast corner of metropolitan Dade County between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, just minutes from both international airports and seaports. This planned community runs along the Intracoastal Waterway .
In this enclave of residential developments, biking and jogging paths wind around the community's golf courses, library, marinas, and colorful landscaped streets. Shopping is plentiful at the expanding Aventura Mall national department stores and shops: Loehmann's Fashion Island, an open air shopping, dining, and entertainment center; and The Shops at the Waterways, a casual collection of waterfront restaurants, and neighborhood shops. Adjacent residential developments boast deep-water marinas surrounding Towers of high-rise condominiums, office buildings, and courtyard townhouses and homes.
The southeastern area of Aventura is dedicated to the manufacturing of sport motor boats and supporting services and dealers. Just beyond its northern border is Gulfstream Park, a thoroughbred racing facility that attracts people from all over the country.
In 1997, the approximately twenty thousand residents of Aventura voted for their own mayor and council persons, as Aventura incorporated into a formal municipality.
